The InterContinental is a very nice hotel with an exceptionally helpful staff and is only a 1 minute walk from the wedding venue (about 20 minutes from the wedding reception), and is right in the City centre, adjacent to the Botanic Gardens and only a short walk to Circular Quay and The Rocks. Sheila and I will be staying here prior to springing off to our honeymoon. It is about 8km (5 mi) from the reception venue. This is probably most suitable for those with children as it is only about 5 minutes from the wedding reception (and 15 minutes in the opposite direction to the City centre). Double Bay is a very upmarket neighbourhood. Sheila and I have stayed here quite a few times. The location and ambience are great. What has faltered slightly recently however is the general service levels with a change of ownership (if you ask for an extra towel, there's a good chance you'll have to ask a second time [and sometimes a third] before you get it). Although the owner/staff are well-meaning, they are a little "off with the fairies". If this is okay, and you want character and cheap, the prices start at AUD155 per night (USD122, GBP63). This can be a bit noisy (you are above a pub after all!) but is good quality accomodation in the historic Rocks area of Sydney for an unbeatable price. Book early - they only have about 15 rooms.
